The Cove of Lerici and the Church of the Guardian Angels in Fossola: dream places, often unknown even to locals.
The Gulf of Poets and the La Spezia area have many wonderful corners. Some are well known and popular, others are almost ignored by the beachgoers, as many do not know how they exist and others do not know how to reach them.
Among these are the Cove of Lerici and the Church of the Guardian Angels in Fossola , embellishing the opposite shores of the gulf of La Spezia and going around the world with their photos on social media, yet so many ask: “How do I get there?”
The bay of Lerici, a corner of the Caribbean in the Gulf of Poets
If you look at the pictures, with that rock in the middle of the sea reflecting the green of the surrounding vegetation, the Lerici Cove you might mistake it for the shooting setting of The Beach , starring Leonardo DiCaprio.
But no! It is only one of several beautiful bays that open along the coast that leads from Lerici to Tellaro , via Fiascherino .
A very appreciated place by photographers, who can shoot professionaly the Caribbean reef wuth the background of the Tino island, the small beach is held out of the crowd because the path to access it is not clearly stated (and who knows the way keeps it secret).
In fact there is no secret! Walking to Tellaro from Lerici, on the right, you see a green gate preceded by a small square. The staircase leading down to the cove beach is located there.
The Church of the Guardian Angels, a quiet haven in Fossola
A tiny church overlooking the sea and terraced wineyards: in good weather, the sun is burning and the little bench carved into the wall of the building is the perfect place to bask in the warm – in absolute peace.
It is called the Church of guardian angels which is reached with the trail to Fossola, one of the purest diamonds of the Riviera of La Spezia, in the Tramonti area.
Looking at this small heavenly patch of land you would suspect what keeps visitors away is the fear of the effort, more than the fact they don’t know its existence.
A not completely motivated fear : actually the church can be reached in about ten minutes, following the path to Fossola that starts from the information point of the Cinque Terre National Park located just after the first tunnel of the coast road (coming from La Spezia, just past Biassa). True, there are some steps to deal with, but if you have no disease or trouble walking, the road is not difficult.
