The 92nd Palio del Golfo is approaching: La Spezia city and the townships are preparing various celebrations.
Like every year, on the first Sunday of August comes the race that passionate the city of Spezia and the Sea Villages.
The race of the Palio of the Gulf sees 13 teams competing, the townships, for 92 years in the waters in front of the Passeggiata Morin and passionate the souls of the participants and the public, always flocking in large number.
The Palio flag prize, designed by the artist Tomaino in collaboration with the students of the Liceo artistico Caldarelli, represents on the one hand the Borgate del Golfo and on the other the patron saint of the Gulf San Venerio: it is the prize kept for a year from the township that Rocks that is able to cover the distance to the foroidal dam twice.
But the Palio del Golfo is not just the race.
While the rowers of each team prepared agonistically throughout the year and participated in the various pre-palio races, many volunteers in the boroughs worked intensively on the preparation of the boats. Typical “high-end” wood-plated boats, these reach levels of ever-higher refinement to be fast and agile, while remaining in the weight and size standards set for the race and strictly verified by an attentive jury on the eve of the stake During the “Weigh”.
And many other volunteers prepare costumes and scenographies for the beloved Palio show on Friday night, when the townships accompany the boats to the race with choreographies usually inspired by the town’s history and characteristics, with the aim of winning the no less ambush Award for the best show.
On Saturday evening, to dampen the challenging climate, the townships gather for a dinner all together on the long tables arranged for the occasion along the “good living room” of the city, Corso Cavour.
Sunday is the big day.
At aorund 5pm, the crowd that wants to attend the race begins gathering along the pier: the Juniores race starts at 6pm. At 17pm, after the lining up of the boats, the Commemoration of the Fallen to the Sea is a moving moment for gathering for all present. By 19.30 starts the race!

And in the evening, inevitable, the fireworks: always spectacular, yet for the locald those of the year before were always the best.
