Lerici is prepared, as every year on the first weekend of July, to celebrate the feast of St. Erasmus, the patron saint of seafarers.
Erasmo is the patron saint of Gaeta, and the story of the saint seems inextricably linked to the people who live on the sea and with the sea. He was a early bishop of the city of Formia, and there, as in Gaeta, where his relics were taken after the destruction of the city by the Saracens.
Perhaps the skilled sailors Lazio brought in the Mediterranean and then in the town on the Gulf of Poets the cult of this saint, celebrated here with much passion, with the light of a thousand candles scattered in the sea, with a particular visual effect.
But not only the religious passion animates the party, which has a rich culinary program, sports competitions, and spectacular fireworks.
his year, the Festival program is undergoing some changes due to the adverse weather.
