As every summer, the town of Carro in Val di Vara celebrates Paganini with a festival dedicated to the great composer from Genoa, but … a little from La Spezia too.
Perhaps not many people know that the great composer Niccolo Paganini was native of Carro, ancient village on the edge of the province of La Spezia, in Val di Vara . The grandfather Giovanni Battista Paganini , packaging boat craftsman, was in fact born in a modest family of Carro, who left to carry out his job in Genoa in 1745. From his son Francesco Antonio Maria was born in 1782 Nicolò, who as a child manifested his extraordinary talent for music and string instruments: the sound of the Mandolin and popular tunes heard in the house were a preparation for the young auotodidatta Paganini, who loved to play the violin with the sound of birds and already at 12 he performed in the churches of Genoa.
Brilliant and eccentric , that guy originally from Carro was destined to become probably the greatest violinist in history , still known for its virtuosity above through the score, and the timeless beauty of his music.
Since 2002 , Carro celebrates the musician which has the honor of being the origin of with an important festival dedicated to the artist, which currently takes place also in other villages in the Val di Vara. Each year the organizers draw some of the best violinists in the world to celebrate Paganini surrounded by the landscape of woods and valleys , stunning natural scenery for music.
Names of great importance like Salvatore Accardo, Uto Ughi, I Solisti Veneti, to name but a few came to Carro to celebrate Paganini right here.
Organized by the Concert Society , the Festival is supported by Region Liguria and by private sponsor Isagro SpA , which since the first editions has believed in this initiative and allowed the territory of the Val di Vara to promote itself with its important cultural initiatives.
In addition, the ‘ Friends of the Festival of Paganini of Carro since 2007 promotes and enhances the territory of the Val di Vara with fundraising campaigns that everyone can help support .
To reach Carro, exit on the A12 in Carrodano, follow signs for Sesta Godano and then for Carro.
