From this evening, the village of Casté opens its doors to art and the shows of CastéLive: in the central square of Corte Paganini, surrounded by a thousand eyes of windows and balconies full of flowers, it is staged cabaret, dance and music.
The village of Casté is one of the thousands small medieval villages of the Val di Vara today inhabited by very few people, made up of a group of tall, narrow stone houses gathered around a piazza. You get there from Riccò del Golfo , passing the town and turning left into a road that goes through a beautiful forest of chestnut and beech trees .
Many similar villages in the Ligurian hinterland today are in a state of abandonment, caused by the isolation which was once sought after by those who had originated them often for defensive reasons.
The small but active community of Casté (34 registered inhabitants) has chosen to bring to life the village with many initiatives to restructure it and keep it alive by recalling visitors and giving to the community itself a new cohesion. They did it through art, with exhibitions organized in funds and through the narrow streets of the village in a widespread art exhibition project, and the Teatro Corte Paganini festival, which in summer attracts many spectators from the city.
The “Corte Paganini” is the main square of the country, collecting and welcoming, in which is set up the stage of the festival CastéLive , this year in its 12th edition. In the coolness assured by the forests around, it’s a pleasure to arrive from the city and attend the live evening activities, of which the program is located below and in our events calendar.
Before and after the shows it will be possible to try local culinary specialties: for this Saturday you can taste the fried anchovies of Monterosso.
