For the feast of St. Venerio the island of Tino will be open from Sunday 11 to Tuesday, September 13th. Here the ferry schedules and the details of the three days.
11 to 13 September: note these days on the calendar, because they are the ones where you can visit the island of Tino. Jewel of the Gulf of La Spezia, the island (which we have already spoken to reveal some of its secrets) is under the control of the Navy and can be visited only in the San Venerio day (patron of lighthouse keepers and of the Gulf of La Spezia).
San Venerio: Tino opens the door
The opportunity to visit the island is essentially religious. As per tradition, in fact, it is allowed to set foot in the festivities on the Tino recurrence of San Venerio ( September 13 ), monk who was born and on the Palmaria island on the sixth century and led his life as a hermit on the nearby Tino island.
This year, as usual, over the day dedicated to the saint in the church calendar (September 13) is granted access to the island in the nearest public holiday (Sunday, September 11 ) and what remains lost between the two dates (ie Monday, September 12 ).
San Venerio 2016: the religious program
The chance to put your foot on Tino offers the great opportunity of a swim where it is usually not allowed. It should be remembered, however, that the starting point is religious.
The feast starts on September 12 with the solemn mass in the cathedral of Cristo Re and therefore the maritime procession which will bring the statue of the saint in Porto Venere (starting at 7 pm hours from dock Italia in La Spezia). On 13 September, then, at 10.30 will be a Mass on the island of Tino, with the blessing of the boats planned at 12am.
San Venerio 2016: access to the Island, when and how to dive
The island of Tino, for San Venerio 2016 feast, will be open Sunday 11, Monday 12 and Tuesday 13 September from 9am to 6pm.
Do not expect to be able to go around freely on the island: access to certain areas will be foreclosed (for example, the lighthouse), but the ability to watch the gulf from the very heart of it is certainly something extraordinary.
